DBZ The Movie

Hey Fox, if you're still thinking about a sequel to the poor flick you released, then I'd strongly recommend you to ask Funglisoft for consulting, I bet they could radically improve your understanding of Dragonbal! Or even better: actually should outsource the production of the next DB movie to them!

Just watch what Funglisoft did for DBZ:

This clip was done with a limited budget and with amateur actors. Still it looks way better than DB Evolution!

So, please, if you really want to make DBZ the movie, hire the guys from Funglisoft!

Dragonball RIP

As predicted the release of DB Evolution was a real flop... That's because Fox tried to transform a great manga into some stupid mainstream flick (Smallville or Power Rangers not sure which one this DB movie can compare to...).

It would have been fine if it was a TV film (very late in the night), or for a direct to DVD release, but Fox made the wrong bet and decided a theatrical release for this offense to Dragonball. There is a dirty stain on Goku's outfit now...

Some even assert that Fox just signed the death act of our hero:

Repose in peace Goku!

Dragonball TV Spot

Dragonball is the worst movie adaptation ever!A UK TV spot that sums up fairly well the movie Dragonball:

DRAGONBALL UK TV Spot

I've already seen the movie, so here my spoilerish summary:

Training - Goku and Chichi flirting - Gran Pa is killed - Goku Meets Bulma and Roshi then Yamcha - Goku and Chichi flirting - Piccolo is defeated by Goku in just a very short scene...

They rush to finish the movie, no real action, it should have been called Power Rangers Evolution instead of Dragonball! Wait for it to be on TV, no need to waste your money on such a crappy flick...

Dragonball Preview

Dragonball EvolutionPreview clips of the upcoming movie Dragonball Evolution are popping up:

Goku (Justin Chatwin) is battling with Master Roshi (Chow Yun-Fat) and his energy flow inadvertently target Bulma (Emmy Rossum)

This wish is maybe the only thing that can save the world.

Chichi (Jamie Chung) is in a fight against Mai (Eriko Tamura) who morphed into Chichi's look-alike.

Those low-grade clips of DB evolution are hardly amazing... I don't say that they s**k, but almost... I really don't recognize the spirit of the original manga in this production, they were damn right to add the word Evolution to the title, otherwise it would look like blasphemy!

Prepare to eat the dirt.
Granpa Gohan is training Goku

Damn it!
Goku gives a hand to Chichi.

Gohan VS Mai and Piccolo

Goku meets Bulma

Goku meets Roshi

Piccolo and Mai search the Dragonballs

Goku, Roshi and Bulma trapped because of Yamcha

Well, I suppose I'll stick to Dragonball's anime!

Dragonball Clip

DRAGONBALL EVOLUTION with Justin Chatwin as GokuA new Dragonball Evolution TV spot has premiered in Japan, it should air in the USA soon, we may still take a look to the Japanese TV clip the full new trailer below:

The special effects of this clip are as colorful and cheap-candy-like as in Smallville. Did they hire the same guys for the job?

Enough irony: the dragon does look awesome and Fox is trying to cope for its previous mistakes, a stark example is Piccolo going green. But overall, I can but have mixed feeling, and still have to strive to call this film a Dragonball movie...

Dragonball Evolution Movie Trailer

Dragonball Evolution MovieA new Japanese trailer of the movie Dragonball, now titled Dragonball Evolution, has leaked online. And it's as painful to watch as before for a real Dragonball fan. But new generations may find it entertaining:

DRAGONBALL EVOLUTION MOVIE TRAILER

Take Smallville, Power Rangers and the most kitsch Hong-Kong-made kung fu movies from the 1970s: that's Dragonball Evolution! I'm sure it will find a public. But I'm so disappointed by this Dragonball movie...

At least they added the term Evolution to the movie title, so let's say that this is not the real Dragonball movie we are all waiting for. Maybe in a few years there will be a Dragonball reboot movie that will make things right.

Dragonball Preview Clip

A preview clip of Dragonball the movie has been aired in Japan. Here below the short Dragonball movie footage:

Some source from AintItCool is asserting that the Dragonball movie is actually better than expected, well to a certain extent: he just said that James Marsters is making a great Piccolo and that Justin Chatwin is able to correctly voice the KAMEHAMEHA. At least two real positive points!

But I'm not yet convinced, far from it actually... Let's hope that the current reshoots will save this Dragonball movie from lameness.

Dragonball Official Trailer

James Wong has been tackling the movie adaptation of Dragonball for 20th Century Fox Studios with Justin Chatwin as Goku and James Marsters as Piccolo. The official teaser trailer of Dragonball the movie has somehow found its way online via DB the movie.

Here below the official Dragonball Trailer (short and long versions):

Dragonball Trailer (short version)

Dragonball Trailer (long version)

Ok, it's a nice kung-fu movie, but that's not really close to the spirit of the manga... I can but agree with an anonymous comment left by a visitor:

"It is a dumb attempt by Hollywood in making a kung fu action movie which in this case happened to use the names of the manga Dragonball even though it has nothing similar."
(see author here)

I am quite disppointed. I was waiting for this movie for so long, but it is not as appealing as I may have wished.

I'm wondering if the scriptwriter who destroyed the myth of Superman by doing Smallville is not behind this Dragonball movie...

Dragonball Trailer Leaked

The trailer of Dragonball was expected to be shown in front of Max Payne. But thanks to a fellow Dragonball fan who was attending the Brand Licensing Europe 2008 in London we have a bootleg version of this Dragonball trailer that has leaked online.

Enjoy below the leaked bootleg trailer of Dragonball the movie:

Dragonball Trailer

I can't say it look bad, but it does not really feel like Dragonball the manga... Let's wait for the official Dragonball trailer to make our mind though.

Dragonball Movie Piccolo

A picture of Piccolo from the movie Dragonball has surfaced online:
(Click on the picture to enlarge it.)
Piccolo - Dragonball MovieThe role of Piccolo is played by James Marster.

I'm a bit disappointed that Piccolo's face isn't green... He just looks like a Vampire from the candy girly movie Twilight.... Fox: it isn't too late to fix this!

Besides the picture of Piccolo we have some more stills from the trailer of the movie Dragonball:
(Click on a picture to enlarge it.)

I guess the film will be entertaining, but I really doubt it is going to be a blockbuster: the man in the street will not be appealed by this cheap action movie, and Dragonball fans will probably disdain to buy a theater ticket for such a lame adaptation and will just search for it on torrents...

But well, we may have a surprise eventually, so let's pray for a miracle to happen....

Dragonball Leaked Script

A former version of the script of Dragonball may have leaked online. The file (still titled Dragonball Z) comes from IMDb.

So have a look, but don't take for granted that it is an authentic screenplay of Dragonball.

Click on the picture below or on the link here to see the script of Dragonball:

Dragonball Script
The script is signed by Ben Ramsey. And there is mention of Magnet Management. After a few search on the web. I'm inclined to think it's authentic. But I really hope it's just an early version because Piccolo deserves to have more time on screen!

There must have been more than one revision of the Dragonball script since this one anyway (a stark example is the change of title).

Dragonball Movie Cast

Dragonball is a cult manga: fans are under alert and ready to voice their opinions in case they are not satisfied with the choices made for Dragonball the movie.

That's probably why we only have scarce details about Dragonball: the production does not want to suffer from a backlash....

Nonetheless so far the selection of the cast of Dragonball hasn't fueled any real controversy. After all it's not that bad and quite close to the characters of the original manga:

Goku, the hero coming from space Goku
(Justin Chatwin)
Bulma, pretty friend of GokuBulma
(Emmy Rossum)
Master Roshi the dirty ol man who is also expert in martial artsMaster Roshi
(Chow Yun-Fat)
Chichi, wife-to-be of GokuChichi
(Jamie Chung)
Yamcha a crazy boyYamcha
(Joon Park)
Piccolo the villain of the movie, nemesis of GokuPiccolo
(James Marsters)
Piccolo's head is
still kept secret...
But should be close
to what you see.
Update: We finally have a first look at Lord Piccolo:
Lord PiccoloWhatever the final movie looks like I think there will be something positive: at least this Dragonball movie is putting the spotlights of Hollywood on the great manga. Even if the movie does not transform into a great blockbuster we could hope that in the years ahead some equivalent to Christophe Nolan will reboot the franchise like he did with Batman!

But wait: Dragonball is probably gonna be a huge surprise and we won't have to wait for a reboot!

I know it's a little bit early to judge but so far I'm kind of disappointed by Dragonball the movies. I don't feel it will recreate the manga universe... Well we shall see if we wait, after all, Justin Chatwin's hairstyle is quite close to Goku hairstyle in the manga...
